Description

The project included a 27,600 sf renovation of all administrative areas, existing classrooms, kitchen/cafeteria, and specialized areas for industrial, health, and technology training at the Northwest Magnet School.  It also included the addition of a new 7,000 SF industrial studies training area. New installation of mechanical and electrical systems throughout including fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems.

The Northwest Magnet School is a comprehensive secondary and post-secondary school that provides academic and vocational /technical courses for students in grades 11-14.  Due to Kotzebue, Alaska being located in a remote coastal Arctic location, the pre-construction phase required precise logistics and project execution planning.  Bethel prepared a comprehensive sequencing, receiving, and winter storage plan in order to ensure the integrity of perishable items that would be incorporated into the work in spring; prior to arrival of the summer barge with additional materials.

This project was designed to meet the harsh Arctic/Sub-Arctic conditions found in Kotzebue. Our team understands the importance of designing and constructing systems and assemblies that will endure and protect both the facility and its users in these types of locations.
