Description

Bethel was the Design-Build contractor for the construction of a new 12-lane bowling facility with food and beverage service, a pro shop, and multi-purpose spaces. The new 17,124 SF structure replaced the existing bowling facility and provided improved vehicular and pedestrian access and circulation.  The new building façade uses multi-colored/textured concrete masonry units consistent with base standards and features a distinctive main entry tower with automatic doors for ADA compliance and ball-toting patrons. The new facility has a centralized reception counter; modern concourse/seating area; and general offices and manager’s office located off the reception desk for ease of staffing.  Much of the existing office furniture was re-used, as well as 80 lockers and the 12 lane pin setters.

Our design-build team coordinated the upgrade of the original design which was completed in 2008 but subsequently put on hold due to the possibility of base closure.  The upgraded design incorporated government-requested modifications and updates to meet current codes and energy saving standards.  The project received LEED “Silver” certification.  Sustainable features include the following:

  • High efficiency thermal envelope: R-72 roof, R-30 walls and triple glazed low-E windows;

  • On-site storm water capture/filtration;

  • High efficiency LED Lighting and controls;

  • Heat recovery of building exhaust/relief + CO2 sensor controlled VAV boxes (projected 40% savings);

  • Indigenous plantings requiring no irrigation.

This fast-track design was accomplished in phases to allow for early construction. The existing bowling center was demolished after the new bowling center became operational and the former site was converted into a landscaped parking area. This project was completed three months early
